Taeng Dao Elephant Camp

(Km. 56 on Route 107)

The camp features daily shows of elephant at works, from 9 a.m. and offers elephant rides. Due to its natural surroundings, rafting and jungle trekking to nearby hilltribe villages are also offered.

Chiang Dao Cave

(Km. 72 on Route 107)

Being part of Doi Chiang Dao mountain, this well-known cave complex is about 10 km. long. The cave where some Buddha images are enshrined, is illuminated by electric lights. The deep recesses which have no light fixtures, can be explored with local guides and lanterns. The local legend that this cave was once the home of a hermit for a thousand years, adds more attraction to the cave.

Mountain Biking in Chiang Dao
Chiang Dao provides also some of the most spectacular trails in northern Thailand. Along its many real off-road trails, visitors will enjoy the beautiful landscape as well as the scenes of peaceful small villages and ethnic hilltribes.

Doi Ang Khang
(163 km. north of Chiang Mai town off Route 107)
This royal agricultural station is situated among beautiful mountainous scenery. With a cool climate year round, this 1300-metre high mountain is a demonstration site for planting and researching temperate flowers, fruits and vegetables under the royal patronage of the King. Besides, visitors can visit several hilltribe villages on the slopes. Trekking and mountain biking on some interesting trails can also be made in the area.

Fang Hot Springs
(Route 1089, 8 km. northwest of Fang District)
In an area of 10 acres amid a forest setting, there are over 50 hot springs, some of which boil continuously with a strong smell of sulphur. This place is frequented by Thai tourists on weekends.

Tha Ton
Tha Ton, a village of Mae Ai County about 160 km. north of Chiang Mai town, is the starting point of the beautiful Kok River which flows along to Chiang Rai. As a small tourist spot, there are restaurants, souvenir shops and accommodations lining on the bendy banks of the river.

Kok River Trip to Chiang Rai
Taking a long-tail boat down to Chiang Rai to view the peaceful life along the river is a very interesting activity though some may find a raft trip more exciting. The regular passenger boat leaves Tha Ton at 12.30 p.m. daily and arrives at Chiang Rai at about 4 p.m. Besides raft trips, treks to many hilltribe settlements can be arranged by travel agents as well.

Wat Tha Ton
This big old temple is situated on the lush hill by the Kok River. In the scenic temple grounds, there are schools for monks and young boys, a treatment centre for drug addicts and a hilltribe support unit. Its shrine on the hilltop provides good views of the beautiful surroundings and the river below.
